Spring Performance Coppelia
June 14 @ 2:00 am - June 15 @ 2:00 pm
$30The IDC will perform Coppelia, a romantic comedy June 14-15, 2025 at Musselman High School. Performances will be at 2pm Saturday and Sunday. Performance featuring guest artist, Matthew Helms as Franz. Mr Helms is a former principal with Boulder Ballet and now a member of BalletNext. Why come to see this ballet:
🎭 Charming Storytelling
Unlike more intense or tragic ballets like Swan Lake or Giselle, Coppélia is a light-hearted romantic comedy. It has mischief, mistaken identity, and a touch of magic — all set in a quaint village with lovable characters. It’s easy to follow even if you’re new to ballet.
💃 Beautiful, Lively Dancing
Coppélia is packed with energetic group scenes, especially from the townspeople, and plenty of playful solos and duets. It’s super fun to watch — less brooding, more joyful. The third act is practically a festival of dance.
🎶 Delightful Music
The score by Léo Delibes is whimsical, melodic, and full of personality. It matches the story so well that even if you closed your eyes (but don’t!), you’d still feel the humor and charm coming through the music.
👀 Visual Treat
From the colorful village setting to the eccentric Dr. Coppelius’s toy-filled workshop, it’s visually rich and imaginative. There’s even a life-sized mechanical doll — how cool is that?
👏 Family-Friendly Vibes
This ballet is great for all ages. It’s often recommended as a “starter” ballet for kids or ballet first-timers, thanks to its humor, straightforward plot, and lack of tragic endings.
